A personal letter to coffee

Dear Coffee,

You are the absolute best.

Who knows how I would have made it through college without you.

And now, it's no different.

Sometimes I have to get up and be places by 7 a.m., and sometimes I just need a bit of a kick in the brain come midday.

I'm pretty sure that my travel cup is always somewhere within reach and is always filled with the sweet nectar of fuel that I use to give my brain and my body a kick.

I'm not sure what idea is more scary:

1) The fact that if caffeine were to ever become a Scheduled drug I, along with many countless Americans, would be so screwed.

2) The fact that I get serious headaches when I don't drink coffee in the morning. I used to be able to get by on caffeinated tea and now that doesn't even seem to work out so much.

Regardless, if I could be a barista I would be. I've spent my days outside of college trying to figure out how to actually brew coffee at home and add the milk and sugar so that I will like it.

I used to buy coffee in college because I was hardly ever home to make it. The CSU library's "cube" and I had several very, very long nights together. Those nights didn't happen without just a little bit of caffeine.

But now, life is real.

Coffee is expensive, and I really should only be buying it once a month, but I've tried to limit myself to once a week.

I got into the incredibly bad habit of starting to buy it whenever I made the trip down to Wright to do reporting because the drive is long and boring. But once I started heading down every afternoon, that had to stop...

Regardless to say, coffee has gotten me through countless hours of study and work, and will probably be my addiction for the rest of my life.

So here's to you coffee... *takes sip from coffee mug.
